Unknown Skin 2026
Unknown Skin is a mixed-media project that brings together the artist’s moving-image practice with the work of musician Paolo Della Piana, whose research explores the relationship between sound and image.
The work explores Phytography, a technique based on the direct imprinting of organic materials onto 16 mm film. Human, animal, and vegetal traces collected from the surrounding environment become part of a living map of relationships between individual, community, and landscape, generating a new epidermal layer of visual interconnectedness. Once digitized, the film enters into dialogue with an optical synthesizer capable of translating images into sound, creating an immersive experience that intertwines nature, technology, and the moving image. Through the convergence of analogue film and sound synthesis, Unknown Skin investigates new modes of interaction between organic and technological systems.
